His Nature or Mine

2 Timothy 2:19 (NASB)

Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His;” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to keep away from wickedness.”

What is wickedness?

Definitions from Oxford Languages Dictionary

Wickedness: the quality of being evil or morally wrong.

Moral: concerned with the principles of right and wrong behaviour.

Evil: profoundly immoral and wicked.

These terms – wicked, evil, even morals are very old-fashioned term these days. Why? Perhaps because people don’t want to concern themselves with them anymore.

Without knowing morals – the principles of right and wrong behaviour – people become corrupted. That’s what we see in the world. Corrupt behaviour because western culture’s fashionable thought is that there is no right or wrong behaviour, only what feels right or wrong for you. That’s corrupt and it leads to a lack of boundaries, which leads to a lack of safety in many different ways. This is what God calls wickedness. That is not in God’s nature and it’s not His desire for humanity, His creation.

Basically, wickedness is a desire for self above His goodness.

Matthew 12:30 (BLB)

The one not being with Me is against Me, and the one not gathering with Me scatters.

I don’t want to be one who is against God. I don’t want to be one who becomes corrupt in nature because of my unwillingness to live according to His nature.

Think about His nature today: Pure. Just. Merciful. Faithful. Kind. Patient. Compassionate. Love.

My nature in comparison: Impure. Critical. Faithless. Unkind. Impatient. Hardened.

So, will I choose His nature or mine? I like His nature better.

Why would I not identify myself in the most perfect being? The One who gives me new life and a new nature? I cannot identify with both. It must be one or the other, or He says, it is the other.
