White Elephants In The Room
If we’re not careful, we can let emotional wounds shape our reality in a way that deceive us. They can shape our thinking and may eventually control our behaviour. That deception can be worse than the original wound.
The bible calls these strongholds. We have to be willing to recognise them, confess them, repent, and surrender them, knowing who is really Lord. He needs to be our stronghold.
Psalm 9:9 (NIV)
The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Jesus overcomes every stronghold but we need to also proactively change our thinking patterns so we do not continue under their influence.
Mark 3:25 (NIV)
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Since we have experienced strongholds we can extend grace and compassion to others experiencing them also. However, in our compassion, we must not be influenced by any spiritual control of those strongholds ourselves.
Psalm 119:165 (NLV)
Those who love Your Law have great peace, and nothing will cause them to be hurt in their spirit.
If you know other people who are under the influence of strongholds, it can be like having a white elephant in the room. That influence can be so powerful that it changes the atmosphere but it's not always easy to name it on a natural level.
Mark 3:11 (MEV)
When unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him, crying out, “You are the Son of God.”
If there is spiritual bondage taking place, we can walk into those atmospheres with the atmosphere of Christ, take authority over the spiritual dimension in Jesus Name and affect it with His peace and power. Any spirit of darkness at work will recognise the authority of Jesus Christ. But we must first recognize and surrender to the name of Jesus.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (CJB)
because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God’s power for demolishing strongholds.
We don’t walk in our own power. We don’t move in manipulation. If we receive from God we desire to see others set free from oppression. We have no desire to control others, we don't condemn them, and are therefore free from any corrupting power.
John 14:27 (NLT)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
