I Want To See You

As Peter Did

Your graciousness tells me that you came to bring me glad tidings – good news.

Your love tells me that you came to heal my broken heart.

Your mercy tells me that you came to proclaim liberty over the captivity in my mind and over my circumstances.

Your power tells me that you came to recover my sight so that I see clearly, past the prison of my pain and misunderstandings.

You came to declare the acceptable year of the Lord over me – the day of recompense to comfort me because I’ve mourned for so long.

You came to show me your glory so I don’t have to wallow in the ashes that my life has produced.

You came to pour over me your oil of joy.

You place on me your own garment of glory, to carry your weight of glory rather than the weight of heaviness that I've grown so accustomed to.

You say that you call me and my generations into your righteousness; that we are established by your planting. For glory. We will build the old ruins, the wasted places. We will raise up what was made desolate and renew what was built in the desert wilderness. (Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 61)

I want to see you as Peter did. Staggered by who You were, He saw himself truly as he was.

Luke 5:4-11 tells the dramatic story of Simon Peter, James and John and the catch that Jesus gave them before they left it all to follow Him.

Luke 5:4-5 (NLT)

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”

Peter was so tired after working hard all night and getting nothing for it. How often I’ve felt that way. Yet, Jesus said do it one more time. Just one more time. I’ll show you where. But go out to deeper waters.

The catch was so much they signalled to their companion boat to help. Both boats filled with so much fish they started sinking. More than they had ever caught before. More than they could handle on their own. More than they could handle together.

Luke 5:8 (NLT)

When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”

Jesus didn’t leave him. Jesus took Peter with Him. He recommissioned him with a new name, to a new life.
