Steward in
Quiet Anticipation
A steward is someone who is responsible for another’s property; someone who is employed to look after certain supplies or a service provided (OXFORD LANGUAGES DICTIONARY).
The bible speaks about us being stewards of God’s kingdom. There are different ways we are called to steward that we’re aware of as believers – money (Proverbs 3:9), and time (Ephesians 5:15-16), for instance.
But we’re also stewards of the authority God has given us to be productive in life, to complete the tasks He's set for us to do and foster the relationships He's prescribed we are to tend.
1 Peter 4:10 (GWT)
Each of you as a good manager must use the gift that God has given you to serve others.
Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
We are called to have authority in our homes over our family in trusting relationships. We are called to have authority in the work place, in the position that God has placed us in, in quiet confidence. We are called to impart into God's house in the area of our giftings. We are to do it all with Spirit-led integrity.
Proverbs 27:23 (NLT)
Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds,
Luke 16:10 (NCV)
Whoever can be trusted with a little can also be trusted with a lot, and whoever is dishonest with a little is dishonest with a lot.
When God has placed us in a certain place and position, He gives us an anointing for it but we need to carry it in His Spirit, not our own.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NET)
And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.
Everyone is given spiritual responsibility for others and it is up to us to intercede, to nurture, and to devote time to those relationships until we see the fruit of God’s kingdom take place in their lives.
Colossians 4:5-6 (NCV)
Be wise in the way you act with people who are not believers, making the most of every opportunity. When you talk, you should always be kind and pleasant so you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should.
Ask yourself: Who am I a steward of? What am I a steward of? How am I stewarding well currently? What or who do I need to invest more in to steward in the way God is calling me to steward?
These are the things Jesus, as Judge, will be asking us when we are called to give an account for our lives. We don’t want to come up short of His plans for us, as written in our own book of life that He’s written, if we want to hear these words:
Matthew 25:21 (NIV)
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
I pray we are led by the Spirit of the Lord to do, act, and impart from His heart, and so, our stewardship will be all that it needs to be. I pray that we will steward in quiet anticipation of His expectations, and so please our Father in heaven.
