Living and Passing On

The way we live and pass on a legacy leaves our primary imprint.

What do we admire in the lives of others who have gone ahead of us? Who are those people? How can we be motivated by them? What can we be changed or inspired by?

Hebrews 12:1 (CEV)

Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.

We can see how sin won’t let some people go. But do we see it in ourselves? Other people’s examples, good or bad, can make the right kind of impression on our choices.

Getting rid of everything that slows us down is a driver. Especially the sin that just won’t let go. That dogged thing that continues to influence our life that we know we’d be better off without. That thing that continues to steal time or money or attitude or good behaviour. That thing that convicts us. If we can see sin that trips others up and entangles them it should be a motivator for us to fight against our own entrapments. What is worth cultivating and what needs to be shed?

Be determined to run the right race ahead.

What is ahead of me this week? This term? This year? Do I know what I am building and running towards to complete? Do I have an idea about the things God has set for me to do? What am I doing to complete that? Am I working towards it each day or each week?

What race are you running? Are you even running in the right race?

See the large crowd of witnesses who have gone ahead in faith. What will be said about me? How is my life a witness? How will it be a legacy to people who have known me?

How do I inspire people or lead by example right now? Will what I am building last and be commended by God?

I don’t want my life to be for nothing and I don’t want people to only think about my life when I’m gone. I want my life to be a witness and a great inspiration for others now, while I’m still living, while I can still speak and share and encourage.

This race doesn't finish here on earth. The finish tape is the entrance to the everlasting.

So, see the great crowd of witnesses around you and be inspired. Give as well as receive.

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
