Peace Will Reign
2 Peter 3:14 (NLV)
Dear friends, since you are waiting for these things to happen, do all you can to be found by Him in peace. Be clean and free from sin.
How much better life is when we are free from sin. Living clean, unobstructed lives, without being caught up in sin that tears us down, we find we are at peace with God. Think about what sin tears you down. Jesus died to save us from those things. He rose so that we would have freedom in life. When we’re at peace with God, our hearts are at peace.
2 Peter 3:17 (NCV)
Dear friends, since you already know about this, be careful. Do not let those evil people lead you away by the wrong they do. Be careful so you will not fall from your strong faith.
It’s easy to be led away, if you don’t keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, building yourself up in your faith. It’s like taking your eyes off the road for a minute and unexpectedly you have an accident, hitting another car, or running off the road. We can be like that, and we are warned to be careful.
Peter says in verse 1 of this chapter that he’s writing to ‘stimulate you to wholesome thinking’.
We are persuaded by whatever we fill our minds with the most. Our thoughts are borne out in our actions and our behaviour, our speech and the heart we carry.
Continue to love God more than what the world has to offer. When we fill our heart and our mind with righteousness, we will look forward to the promise of the new heaven and new earth “where righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13).
At that time in the future, we won’t have to continually fight against sin. Peace will reign and God’s righteousness will bind up our hurts and bring healing.
