What Do You Do When You Don’t Know What To Do?
Have I asked God for help?
James 1:5 (NCV)
But if any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous to everyone and will give you wisdom without criticizing you.
The bible is practical. It says, don’t compare yourself to others, and ‘mind your own business’. Get on with your own life.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 (GNT)
Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before.
Am I tearing down or building up?
Proverbs 14:1 (NIV)
The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.
Do I have control of my tongue?
Proverbs 14:3 (ERV)
Foolish words cause you trouble; wise words protect you.
Am I open to the real issue or do I just want a convenient answer? I can find the right answer if I'm willing to follow it's truth.
Proverbs 14:6 (ERV)
Anyone who makes fun of wisdom will never find it, but knowledge comes easily to those who understand its value.
Don’t get impatient and do things out of reaction.
Proverbs 14:29 (NIV)
Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
Psalm 37:7 (AMP)
Be still before the LORD; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him;
If I need to do something, choose what is good.
Galatians 6:9 (NASB95)
Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
Am I listening to God’s counsel? He gives it in ways I can personally understand and receive.
Psalm 32:8 (AMP)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you.
Make sure my stubbornness is not preventing me from doing the right thing.
Psalm 32:9 (CEV)
Don't be stupid like horses and mules that must be led with ropes to make them obey."
Our natural tendency is to occupy the pilot's seat in our life. The bible teaches that we follow the Lord. We should really occupy the co-pilot seat and work in cooperation with Him to accomplish His perfect plan for our lives.
Proverbs 16:9 (NLT)
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
What do we do when we don't know what to do? We pray that our hearts would be still enough to hear, our minds would be obedient to follow, and our bodies would be strong enough to fulfil the bounty of things God has instore. I pray we would not be dismayed or discouraged but that we would put our hope in Him who knows us and plants our feet in His footprints, for He's already gone ahead of us. He knows the way.
