Overlay Your Life With Gold

How often do we consider the wonder of God? How often do we think about His glory? How well do we revere and exalt Him?

King David and King Solomon revered God. Their lives and their actions indicate the position of power and authority in which they held Him.

1 Kings 6:7

In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.

Even in building the temple, King Solomon didn’t allow it to become a place for the ordinary. It didn’t become a worksite during its build. He kept it holy. The builders’ protocol was completely different while building the temple of God than it would have been on any other worksite. Their thinking had to be different to any other job. Their processes had to be changed. Because building the temple was holy. They honoured God to such an extent they elevated their standards of protocol and the ground they were building on, not allowing anything to disturb the peace, not allowing mess or debris to litter the ground. They established it as a holy place because God was to live there.

Do we treat the way we’re building our life as holy? Do we think differently to the people in the world around us? Do we have different processes in our life – a different lifestyle? Do we honour God in all that we do? Do we keep our peace and our inner heart undisturbed? Do we make sure that we don’t allow rubbish in to mess up our mind, our thoughts, so that we remain clean and undefiled?

1 Kings 6:21-22

Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold. So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.

We can overlay our life with gold. The thoughts in our mind, the heart we carry, the fun we have, the things we laugh about, the things we work at or enjoy doing for leisure, the relationships we have, are all parts of our temple.

God sees it all and He receives the gift of our life given back to Him in honour and joy every day. Every part of every day. He doesn’t go away and come back on Sundays. He’s always readily attentive to us. Are we always readily attentive to Him? Do we overlay our life with gold for Him?

1 Corinthians 3:16 (GNT)

Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you!

Colossians 3:16 (ERV)

Let the teaching of Christ live inside you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Philippians 2:12-16 (NLT)

Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.  For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life
