Just Ask
God is a God of provision and faithfulness. Can you agree? But has there ever been a time in your life when you have grumbled about a lack before you asked God to meet that need?
Here is what we are reminded of this morning. God is waiting for us to ask. To remember He is the One who provides for us. To remember He is always listening to us, He is always watching over us, He is waiting for us to come to Him.
Exodus 17:3-7
But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses… The Lord answered Moses… I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarrelled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
What do we learn? All the people had to do was ask that God would provide for them, as He had done before. God had the answer but He didn’t do anything until they asked. Our lesson is not to test or demand of the Lord. Just ask, knowing that God has the answer. And continue to ask with confident expectation. Asking is a transaction of faith in relationship.
James 4:1 (NIV)
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?
James 4:3-4 (NLV)
You do not get things because you do not ask for them. Or if you do ask, you do not receive because your reasons for asking are wrong. You want these things only to please yourselves.
Mark 11:24 (NCV)
So I tell you to believe that you have received the things you ask for in prayer, and God will give them to you.
Matthew 7:7 (ERV)
“Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you.
Matthew 7:11 (NLT)
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Believe and know in your heart that God is a Father who provides and gives what is right and good to His children. You want water? Of course, your Father knows that you need it. You want food? Of course, your Father knows. Ask Him for it that it would be a blessing to you and your family, and anyone else around you who needs it. You want clothes? Of course, your Father knows and He is a God of wealth and can give to delight you.
