Body, Soul and Spirit

Mark 2:17 (NLT)

When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

Struggling through a season of physical pain and suffering is different to struggling through a season of emotional pain and suffering. In either season, we have to recognise where wounds or offenses lie, potentially infecting our system. The body has a memory and carries emotional trauma just as much as the mind and the heart, unless it’s dealt with. The body, soul, and spirit work together as one. If one needs healing, they will all eventually need healing.

Righteousness is what we need, but not our own. Christ’s righteousness brings healing from sin and healing of the body. He is the great physician, and will eventually bring everything to the surface for us to deal with so that we can be set free.

Mark 2:3-5 (NIV)

Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Which was easier for Jesus? To forgive his sins and bring him into righteousness, or heal his body? He did both.

Proverbs 3:7-8 (NIV)

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

When we acknowledge the gift of Jesus’ righteousness, we repent, we forgive, we receive forgiveness, and we are renewed and made whole.

It’s a process with layers, but when we keep looking to Him, He leads us through the deep, dark valley and out the other side, step by step, layer by layer.
