Receive a Free Gift

There’s someone in my life I love a lot. We've known each other a long time. This person and I have seen the very best and the very worst of each other. But we don’t always see eye to eye.

This person seems really angry that God should have a say about their eternal destination. This person believes in God but doesn’t want Him to be personal. This person doesn’t want to believe in the God of the bible because it says He is the only way. This person doesn’t want God to be the only way. Doesn’t think that’s fair. Doesn’t think that’s appropriate. So refuses to acknowledge God for who He is and refuses to accept the reality of a spiritual life and death.

This person, therefore, is choosing to think that death is a vacuum of nothingness. Which is convenient, rather than considering a place like hell, where people who rebel against God’s saving grace go. Why? We choose to be with God where God is, or we choose to be without God, where God is not. It's that way in this life, which this person is deciding for at the moment, and it's that way in the next. The next life happens no matter what we decide, but decide we must and happen it will.

This person doesn’t want to believe God is the ultimate judge. This person, at the moment, seems to think their stand-off with God is a matter of pride. And they’re right. Unfortunately, that pride is not their saving grace. That pride is a matter of eternal life and death. And because I really love this person, that really matters to me.

Romans 3:23-24 (GNT)

...everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence. BUT by the free gift of God's grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.

Putting our own pride aside, we can freely accept such a divine gift, that sets our minds free of conflict, our hearts free of shame and our spirits restored.

Why wouldn't anybody receive such a gift?

This person is really stubborn and hardens their own mind, even though their heart has such a soft inner core, which, I think yearns to be right with God (even though they'd probably repel that idea). I hope and I pray that this person, who I love a lot, and who God taylor-made for a purpose and has huge capacity, would surrender their pride and accept the best gift in the world. Eternal peace in God’s love.

Romans 8:38-39 (NLV)

For I know that nothing can keep us from the love of God. Death cannot! Life cannot! Angels cannot! Leaders cannot! Any other power cannot! Hard things now or in the future cannot! The world above or the world below cannot! Any other living thing cannot keep us away from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.

But for nothing to separate us, we have to receive this gift and acknowledge our pride is not a beneficial thing.

2 Peter 3:9 (ASV)

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
