The Word of God is understood by the Spirit of God and is revealed to us by the Spirit of God. We cannot understand it without the Holy Spirit.
People reading scripture with their own understanding can be led by their own imaginations and desires to make it convenient for them. Then they endorse it for themselves by justifying it with scriptures outside of contextual truth.
1 Corinthians 2:11 (ESV)
For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
We cannot rely on ourselves. When we read scripture, we need to be open to the Holy Spirit who is waiting to open our eyes to the truth.
John 16:13 (NKJV)
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
This is an important part of our bible reading that, if we don’t take time to wait on God, we won’t receive His insights and the personal understanding He wants to teach us for our lives.
2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
If you look anything up on Google you will have noticed that AI pops up at the top of every Google search. Bible scriptures are no exception. After selected bible scriptures AI gives an explanation.
You cannot look to AI for bible commentary. While AI attempts context it is experimental. It can never be led by the Spirit of God so don’t look there. That’s one way to become easily misled.
Let’s consider a recent search I did for one verse as a point of discussion.
Matthew 11:12 (NKJV)
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
This verse is important and refers to the desperation of people who were, and are, so eager to hear and receive the gospel message of God’s kingdom they were, and are, like an overwhelming throng besieging a city, an invading army beating down the doors.
The first time I looked up this verse AI explained it as people with malicious intent and that violence has a negative meaning. Because I have studied this verse before, I knew that this explanation was incorrect and not in context. But if I didn’t know that, this scripture, which is already easily misunderstood, would give me a false understanding. It’s vital that we don’t become misled because something sounds reasonable.
The second time I looked up this verse AI had a different explanation, presumably directed by the following searches I did and mirrored what I had come to find, in context, as correct. It is easy to be misled. But the real deception is when you don’t know you’re misled or deceived.
Matthew 24:24 (KJ21)
For there shall arise false christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
The Word of God has it’s own source of leading and that is the person of the Holy Spirit. The desire for truth must first be in our heart so we don’t listen to the wrong voices.
Proverbs 4:5-9 (NLT)
Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will honour you. She will place a lovely wreath on your head; she will present you with a beautiful crown.”
John 8:31-32 (ESV)
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The truth brings peace and follows after the person of truth, Jesus Christ. But deception brings chaos and rebellion and follows after the ‘father of lies’ (Matthew 4:5, John 8:44).
Joshua 7:11 (NIV)
Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.
Watch that we don’t search AI for answers in place of authentically seeking the spirit of God for ourselves and so quickly leading us towards a counterfeit spirit, counterfeit emotional intelligence, counterfeit security and a counterfeit god.
If you think this is far-fetched, google "AI religion". You will find an AI insight into the depth and scope of its ability and direction. You will find AI generated churches are being established in Europe at the present time. You will also find paperwork was filed in 2015 to register the first AI worshiping church by Anthony Levandowski, a former Google AI engineer. It is now functioning, called Way of the Future. The name is no coincidence. Christianity was first known as The Way when the first disciples followed Jesus Christ. Connect the dots.
Love wisdom itself and seek it beyond the easiest understanding that you can find, or what fits your opinions and experiences. Do double duty and you will find the truth and the truth will set you free. You won’t be misled when you continue seeking God for Himself.
John 14:6 (NIV)
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The real truth is not AI. The real truth can be found in one ancient place. If you seek it, you will find.
Jeremiah 29:13 (LSB)
You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
