Close Enough to Touch

People who knew that Jesus was nearby rushed to see him.

Matthew 14:34-36 (NLT)

After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

Jesus let them touch him. Crowds of people, all around him. Jostling. Calling. Reaching. Maybe grabbing. He was strong enough, still enough, compassionate enough, to let them come close enough to touch Him. He didn’t keep them at arm’s length. He smelt their breath, felt their touch, saw their desperation. And he was available. Present. He didn’t move away. He reached towards them. Saw them. Heard them. Touched them. Blessed them. Healed them.

This is my Saviour.
