A Spiritual Dimension
The sovereignty of God describes His authority, His absolute power and rule over all other powers and authorities. His will, will override all others, and ensure the completion of what needs to take place for His good purposes in this world.
Job 12:10 (GNT)
It is God who directs the lives of his creatures; everyone's life is in his power.
Why is this a good thing? It is a good thing, firstly, because as in all things there needs to be a purpose and a plan before something takes place and for that thing to be successful. It is a good thing, secondly, because of His perfect nature and character. Because of this, God can be trusted.
Isaiah 43:20 (GWT)
Wild animals, jackals, and ostriches will honour me. I will provide water in the desert. I will make rivers on the dry land for my chosen people to drink.
The sovereignty of God is either a magnificent thing to people (who believe) or a dreadful thing to people (who don’t believe). To those who don’t want to believe it is a disdainful thing. But it is still a thing. The sovereignty of God can’t be changed or wiped away because of what people think or say or do. He will have His way in all things. Including my life. Including your life.
Revelation 7:1-3 (GNT)
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds so that no wind should blow on the earth or the sea or against any tree. And I saw another angel coming up from the east with the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels to whom God had given the power to damage the earth and the sea. The angel said, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees, until we mark the servants of our God with a seal on their foreheads.”
There is a spiritual dimension that most people do not see. This spiritual dimension is active and part of all that goes on in the earth and will go on in the earth to come. It is a part of our lives, whether people see it or not, and it has everything to do with the life we experience. God is sovereign and will see His plans fulfilled. Those who believe are kept in His care. Those who choose not to believe are allowed to go their own way.
I pray that as we believe in the sovereignty of God, we will trust in His goodness in all things, no matter what transpires around us. I thank you, Lord, that those who put their trust in you are sealed by you for all eternity and will not be shaken from Your hand.
