A Spark of Light
Yesterday, I came across an amazing embryonic video of the first sign of life in the womb.
This sign of life is produces by flashes of light known as zinc sparks. It happens the moment one sperm fuses with one egg. Calcium in the egg cell activates with zinc ions in the egg creating small explosions and a new life is created.
It's no coincidence that the first thing that happens when life is being formed in the womb, is an explosion of light. That's the first thing that happened when God created life on earth.
Genesis 1:1-3 (NLV)
In the beginning God made from nothing the heavens and the earth. The earth was an
empty waste and darkness was over the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was moving over the top of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Light is the first organised sign of life in the womb. Science has discovered that and uses those sparks of light to guide IVF processes. This is beautiful evidence of God and His handiwork.
The first thing God created was light, Genesis 1:3. Then, “God created mankind in His own image, male and female He created them”, Genesis 1:27. In John 8:12, Jesus described Himself as the light of the world. John 1:1-6 is the most compelling:
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Here is biological evidence of God, described in the bible, and it is also biological evidence that life begins from the moment of conception, if anyone doubted it.
In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus tells His disciples, “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others that they may… glorify your Father in heaven.”
I am inspired by the reference to light that is made throughout the bible, the acknowledgment of being made in God’s image, how it is exhibited in the womb, and is finally expressed by Jesus about how we should live our lives, by glorifying our Father in heaven.
Remember today, you have the light of Christ in you.
Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
