Dress Sense: Scriptures

God’s wardrobe isn’t to be worn just to adorn the outside. First, it seeks to penetrate deep within. It has a designation for our accomplishment. Heaven.

Clothe Yourself This Way

Matthew 6:28-29

Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don't work hard to make their clothes. But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth wasn't as well clothed as one of them.

Isaiah 52:1

Ephesians 6:14-18

Therefore, put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand….

1 Corinthians 2:15,16

The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Don't Clothe Yourself This Way

… So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light.

Romans 13:14

Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh

.. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

“God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.”

.. for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

John 11:43, 44

When He had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

Deuteronomy 22:5

A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.

Really, the bible says, know who God made you to be. Don’t confuse yourself and don’t let other people confuse you. Accept and embrace your own true beauty and you won’t have to go hunting in second-hand stores. You’ll find peace. You’ll find that your own clothes fit best.

God’s Clothing Penetrates and Becomes Active and Alive

Besides the affects God’s wardrobe has on our emotional wellness, it also brings movement, and noise! Plus, it has light to penetrate dark areas of the mind.

Psalm 30:11

You turned my wailing into dancing; (movement) you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy (senses), that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent (noise).

For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

Isaiah 61:1 (see Isaiah 61:10)

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.

Eternally Clothed

God gives us a new identity – even while we retain who He originally created us to be.

1 Peter 5: 2-4

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them…being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

You will be a crown of splendour in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah (meaning “my delight is in her”) and your land Beulah (meaning “married”).
