The God of the Unseen

God – Spirit, Creator of the universe, personal Saviour, all-knowing, all-powerful, omni-present God – sees you. Sees me. Knows you. Knows me. Calls you. Calls me.
He calls our steps into order. He focuses our attention where it needs to be. He directs our friendships and our conversations, aligns us with the right people at the right time, and equips our capabilities, even when things seem unclear.
The God of the unseen sees us looking to Him to meet our needs.
The God of the unseen watches our intentions as we seek His instructions.
The God of the unseen is fully attentive and pleased as we put our trust in Him, leaning on Him rather than our own understanding or other people’s expectations.
The God of the unseen takes pleasure in directing our lives and in our ability to embrace His adventure that we cannot fully navigate ourselves.
Hebrews 11:1-2, 6-7a, 8, 11(NIV)
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for…. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family…. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going…. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.
The God of the unseen goes before us and lets us know what to expect, as we’re journeying. We may not know the details, but we know enough to know what direction He wants us to move in. We know enough to stay still when He says “be still”, or to go when He says “the time is now”. We know enough to trust Him in the uncertainties and follow Him through the unseen because He has the blueprint.
Isaiah 30:20-21 (CEV)
But now you will again see the Lord, your teacher, and he will guide you. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice saying, “This is the road! Now follow it.”
I am grateful for those friends who know enough with me. They believe in more and the God who is able. Together we pray and believe with each other, for each other, loving each other through the waiting and the preparation.
The future I’ve been praying for, trusting God in, is now at my door. I am aware of it though it is yet unseen. God is putting the pieces in place. But I am so grateful for what has been and the time it’s taken to get here. The impatience, the challenges, the frustrations, the growth, the fear, the development, the battles, all the anxieties. He’s taught me through it all and I am not the same. I’ve been fashioned for my next season.
The God of the unseen will lift me up in due time. That means He directs my steps and brings every step into line at the right time for His reasons, in a way that blesses me. That’s what I want. My greatest desire is to be made perfectly mature in Him and to be given the opportunity to help others do the same.
We are never short on those opportunities to help each other.
1 Peter 5:5b-6 (TLB)
And all of you serve each other with humble spirits, for God gives special blessings to those who are humble, but sets himself against those who are proud. If you will humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, in his good time he will lift you up.
Years have passed in battle after battle but instilled a steel in my backbone and a constancy in my spirit. Years have taken my youth but given back wisdom, stolen much but passed on gentleness and insight. Years have not been kind but God has been. And as I look back I see the presence and guidance of an almighty, loving, ever-present Father who knows all about my life from start to finish.
I’ve trusted the God of the unseen to work out my future while I walk out my walk, losing comforts for safety and forfeiting a career to put my child first because he never asked for what was dealt him. God has helped me raise him to be well-adjusted, well-regarded and passionate about service, shaping him even through a dysfunctional, often rejected-and-forgotten-by-others situation. God has never forgotten us, never displaced us, and has used every situation to strengthen and fashion us.
I have come to know the God of the unseen more intimately; to acknowledge He is bigger than I can imagine. A Spirit being who is creator, scientist, physician, mathematician, artist, designer, parent, friend, counsellor, advocate, author and finisher, who created billions of galaxies and the tiniest cell, yet is a person who knows my every thought and whom I’m made in the image of (Genesis 1:27).
As I sit with this awesome understanding, He sees my belief in Him. Because I’ve put my faith in Him, He promises to lift me up in due season. In due season.
There is a due season and He sees me in it and will prove me in it just as He’s proved me throughout years of wandering and trial and persevering.
It’s a wonderful comfort that now affords me an immeasurable certainty in something I don’t know and can’t see. It's astounding.
If you’re wondering about your own due season, rest assured. It’s coming. Make the most of the time that the God of the unseen, lover, redeemer of your life, is giving you to learn, to grow, to be strengthened, to rest, to be fashioned and prepared, to know Him more intimately so that when the door to your next season opens, you will be ready to walk through it and flourish.
