You don’t know what tomorrow brings. You may be making plans. You may be waiting on God for things. You may need to work towards something, so you’re depositing seed in advance of reaping a harvest. You will have responsibilities. People will be needing you and needing your love and attention. Today really needs your attention more than any other day.
Too often we think forward to tomorrow, worrying about it, divesting our energy into the what-ifs and maybe’s. But it’s what we’re doing today that really matters.
Here’s a thought for you – God has preserved you for this day. Not tomorrow. You have been preserved for this very day. And tomorrow, you can know you have been preserved for that day, once it comes.
Look at the amplified translation of this well known bible verse.
Psalm 118:24 (AMP)
This [day in which God has saved me] is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Isn’t that interesting? God has saved me for this day – therefore, I’m going to rejoice and be glad in this day.
Matthew 6:34 (NRSV)
So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Living in today with a sense of destiny brings peace and joy that you can’t experience the same as when you’re constantly thinking forward or looking back. It allows you to focus with more pleasure on the purposeful things that you want to see achieved, forgetting what is behind and without projecting worry onwards. It gives us the freedom to be present in the beautiful moments throughout the day, like the sound of your child’s voice calling you and the way you choose to nurture your response, or the way the sunlight streams through your windows and casts pretty patterns around the room. Pause and receive.
Priceless moments of daily pleasures are nestled in amongst the purposes of this day that will never be given again.
